Calling it quits on the free 1989 Yamaha 70HP outboard motor teardown! After managing to separate the rusted powerhead from the intermediate unit, we kept digging into the engine to see what caused the catastrophic seizure. Here is what we found inside: - Snapped bolts everywhere: 9 out of 14 head bolts snapped off, and most of the reed valve manifold bolts sheared right off due to corrosion. - Horrific water jacket scaling and salt buildup. - Split case revealing mysterious packed dirt/debris (looks like an ant's nest!). - Heavy heat discoloration on the connecting rod journals, indicating it likely overheated and burned up before being put away. Parts are too limited and expensive to justify saving this block, so it's officially off to the scrap yard. Time to start hunting for a replacement engine, assuming the free MirroCraft hull even floats!
