Inside the Real "Below Deck": The daily life of a British couple living and sailing aboard a yacht.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This has got to be our worst sail yet with regards to high seas. The plan was to sail from Koufonisi to Levithia where we had planned to stay overnight then continue on the following morning to Leros. We set off early morning in ideal conditions, but despite the forecast it soon changed to probably the heaviest sea we have ever been in. The forecast was for 1.5 m swells at 6 second intervals, instead we had 3m waves, some breaking, and they were at less than 2 seconds, and just off the beam. Although the boat handled it, it was not comfortable by any means. We were getting thrown about and at times we had water way past the gunwhales and up to the cabin windows, despite being heavily reefed. Winds were around 30 knots, which isn't normally a problem but the high seas made it bad. As we approached Livithia we checked the weather for the following day which had changed since the last update, it was showing worse for the following day so we decided to carry on to Leros as the waves had died down a bit. Thankfully the seas died down to around 1.5 - 2m swell and started to come from behind. A long day, and one not to be repeated!
