Ep.46. Amid Covid-19 we sail from Andros to Florida

We did lots of sailing miles to leave southern Bahamas for a return to USA amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Now in Andros, we put up the mainsail and Code D and head along the coast of Andros toward the Grand Banks of Bahamas, then across to Bimini. Without stopping, we exit the banks at the Cat Key cut and head for Fort Lauderdale. As we leave the Bahamas, the Bahamas police are announcing continuously on the VHF that the borders are closed and no one may enter or exit, meaning don’t stop for exit papers because immigration is closed. Because we only need our entry paper to Bahamas to enter the US, we sailed straight for Fort Lauderdale. The 17th street bridge opening at Port Everglades was a welcoming site. We are happy with our choice to leave immediately. We have friends who planned to go south for hurricane season and are now stuck in more southerly places with borders closed and no where to go.
