Our time here spanned a few weeks, and we really get to know the area, above, and under the water. The Thunderball Grotto is one of our favorite snorkeling spots in the Bahamas and with the tidal changes, current can rip through the cave! Timing is everything. Fun fact, scenes from the James Bond movie Thunderball were filmed here! There are hundreds of fish like Sergeant Majors and Yellowtail Snapper. The area is protected from fishing so life is abundant in and around the grotto. The Bahamas is a shark sanctuary and the Nurse Shark population at Staniel Cay proves that they are thriving in the area. These creatures are so beautiful and stunning to watch swim through the water from the docks. With a storm on its way, we decided that because we weren't finished exploring everything on this beautiful island, we carefully decided to spend the money on a dock at Staniel Cay Yacht Club for a few nights. We explored the island on foot and discovered just how powerful Mother Nature can be on the windward side of the island. We are glad to have taken the dock with the wind shifts that were happening! A golf cart adventure with Trio leads us to a beautiful private beach protected from the howling Atlantic Ocean. We cross a river in our underwear and enjoy discovering wildlife in every corner of the Exumas.
