Entering Lake Vänern

5,528 Bekeken· 13/07/15

On the 30th of June 2015 the Swedish Ship Götheborg started the historical journey to enter Lake Vänern in Sweden, to head out on the unique Vänern Tour. This has never been done before. The Swedish Ship Götheborg is the largest sailing ship that has ever sailed in the lake. To get to lake Vänern the ship had to pass through six locks in the river Göta Älv. The locks have a maximum with and length, and there are also bridges and other obstacles on the way. The maximum hight is 27 meters and the maximum with is 15 meters. As the Swedish Ship Götheborg is 47 meters high and 23 meters wide we needed to get both shorter and thinner to be able to enter the lake. The biggest challange was time. We only had one and a half day to rig down the ship, which normally takes two or three weeks. On the 1th of July the Swedish Ship Götheborg had pass through all of the locks in the river Göta Älv. It would never had worked if we didn't have had an amazing full crew who worked really hard to make this happen. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!
