With my friend Dimitrios joining as crew, what started as a trial sailing passage turned tense: our engine suddenly failed, just as wild thunderstorms began to roll in across the Caribbean. Caught between failing gear and looming storm cells, we had to make some tough calls. Could we sail through? Would it be safe to push on? Or was it smarter to reconsider our route entirely?
