We leave Cape York and sail to Thursday Island where we visit the Quetta All Souls Memorial Cathedral, which was built in the early 1900's, and named in remembrance of those who perished on board the Quetta which sank in 1890. The church has several artefacts from the Quetta shipwreck including several of the benchtops that are made from stonework from the ship, a port hole that was recovered in 1906, and the life ring that was found washed up on Albany Island We check out the Green Hill Fort which was built between 1891-1893 as part of Australia's defence against a possible Russian invasion. It was decommissioned some time in 1927, before being reactivated during WWII and was used as a signals and wireless station We then head south down the western side of Cape York to get a better wind angle for the 2 night crossing from Port Musgrave in Queensland, to the Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory, across the Gulf of Carpentaria. #seawind1260 #circumnavigationaustralia #thursdayisland #seawindcatamarans
