Deep Sea Fishing off a Sailboat We finally raise the hook and take off for Great Inagua! But first Brandy whipped up a salad for lunch and eggs for breakfast. We had to catch up to our buddy boat, Bacchus, so we didn't get to eat breakfast until we got through Hog Cay Cut. Once we make it further out to the edge of the Bohemian banks, the wind dies on us. Since we were still in fairly shallow waters, we decided to drop anchor. We had just enough time to eat the salad Brandy prepped that morning. The wind picked up so much we were going 7 knots. We caught a barracuda right away. Once we got him off the hook and dropped the line back in, something hit the lure and started running. We slowed Saoirse down to reel it in. A huge Wahoo was waiting for us on the other end. He was at least 30 lbs. Then we geared up for the night by putting a reef in the main. I woke up to Brandy telling me the the genoa was ripped. So I popped out of bed and dropped the head sail. The stitching came undone at the leech and panel. Hopefully Brandy can fix it. We put up the jib and we were off again. Then we got a monster mahi mahi on the line. He kept running so it ended up taking a while to get him close to the boat. Every time he did get close he took off again. 45 minutes later he was tired enough for us to try and get him in, or so we thought. He ended up breaking our pole and getting away but he was a lot of fun reeling in. We were able to balance the boat enough to sit down and eat some of the wahoo we caught the day before. It was delicious! We arrived in Great Inagua the following afternoon without any more excitement.
