During the past 24 hours, the fleet has seen the most extreme conditions so far experienced in this entire race. Dongfeng Race Team has retired, Team SCA has destroyed a headsail and Bouwe Bekking, skipper of Team Brunel, is wincing as the boat jumps off every wave in 40-knot gusts. This is why they call it boat-breaking conditions.
