#89 | Sailing Norway: Our New Season Begins in the North

After a long Arctic winter in Finnsnes, it is finally time to slip the lines and begin a new sailing season in Northern Norway. In this episode, we say goodbye to the small winter community that formed around the harbour, leave Finnsnes behind, and head south along the spectacular Norwegian coast. Spring has arrived early in Arctic Norway: the snow is melting, the days are growing longer, and the familiar feeling of movement returns. Our route takes us through calm waters, narrow passages, snowy mountain backdrops, and peaceful anchorages around Senja, including a beautiful overnight stop in Valvågen. We continue towards Fjelldal, navigating currents, bridges, cold April weather, and the quiet magic of early-season cruising in the north. We also share an important announcement: we have taken over as publishers of the Norwegian Cruising Guide, the most complete English-language sailing guide to Norway, Svalbard and Jan Mayen. It is a project rooted in decades of first-hand harbour and anchorage knowledge, and we are proud to continue its legacy.
