Join me on this solo sailing adventure from Sint Maarten to Anguilla aboard Mirage! After waiting at anchor for the bridge to open, I set sail, cruising past the stunning coastline of Sint Maarten before crossing the Anguilla Channel. The day started with light winds - perfect for capturing the beauty of the Caribbean waters. But once past the island, the wind picked up, and Mirage flew across the channel at 8-9 knots. Passing Little Anguilla, I sailed close-hauled up to my destination, enjoying the sun, the sea, and the freedom of the open water. With just 72 hours left on our South African visas, we thought paperwork would be the hardest part of our week. We were wrong. This episode follows our last few days in Knysna as we race to sort a visa extension before our time runs out — including a wrong turn, an unexpected phone call, and the very real possibility of being forced to leave South Africa, and Happy Days, behind. Once we're finally free to breathe, we take our family and a car loaded with surfboards east to Jeffreys Bay for some of the best surf we've found on this coast — and an encounter none of us saw coming. We wrap up our time on our catamaran on Cat Island in the Bahamas sailing in the pristine bay on the west side of the island. We then press our luck with the waves and decide to turn around and sail back to where we started when things get rough. We also spend time exploring a mangrove river and hidden blue hole, then wrap things up with a get-together onshore to sample some local food, drinks, and music at a rake and scrape. We are on our next part of our Journey south and we get radioed by a catamaran leaving the inlet with us. He says he is heading to the same spot and says lets see who can get there first. So the Race was on! Can we beat a Catamaran with our monohull? We had some issues but start out great as far as the race is going. We chose different routes to get there so for a lot of the race we could barely see each other. It was a fun and beautiful journey. And watching the water color changes as we went was something new. An der Nordwestküste von Mallorca liegt eine der schönsten Buchten, in welche der Fluss «Torrent de Pareis» im Laufe der Jahrtausende eine tiefe Schneise in die hohen Felswände geschnitten hat. Der Fluss trocknet im Sommer vollständig aus und lässt einen kleinen Sandstrand mit einer Länge von fünfzig Metern zurück. Gefährlich wird er aber, wenn heftige Regenfälle ihn anschwellen lassen. Ein paar Monate nach meinem Besuch ertrinken zwei Frauen, die auf einer Wanderung davon überrascht werden. Bei der Einfahrt in die Bucht findet sich rechts ein Restaurant mit kleiner Hotelanlage. Ein Wanderweg führt ebenfalls hierher, der aber kurz vor Erreichen des Strandes abbricht. Von Land aus ist dieser schöne Ort über eine abenteuerliche Serpentinenstraße mit einer 270 Grad Haarnadelkurve erreichbar, für deren Bau im Jahre 1931 einunddreißigtausend Kubikmeter Fels überwiegend von Hand abgetragen werden musste. Mehr als dreihundert Tier- und Pflanzenarten gibt es hier, weshalb die Bucht von der Regierung der Balearen zum Naturdenkmal erklärt wurde. Hier liegt man nahe dem Badestrand gut vor Anker. Abends, wenn die Tagestouristen sich auf den Heimweg machen, wird es ruhig. Dann hört man das Meckern von Ziegen, die irgendwo herumstreunen und den Gesang der Vögel.
