McGovern Gilmore Sailing is a new 49er team consisting of Matt McGovern (Helm) and Robbie Gilmore (Crew) who are campaigning for the Irish place for the 49er at Tokyo 2020. We've known Robbie for around 10 years now, both growing up racing each other in the Topper Fleet. We recently got in touch with each other and spoke about filming some content. Last Friday it looked like an interesting day with 20 knots of wind and blue skies forecast. We got the blue skies as promised, but the wind never appeared. This was our first time working with Soarscape a new drone company based in Northern Ireland. We are looking forward to working with them in the future, allowing us to add a new perspective to our work.

Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding, with support from the Cruising Club of America and the Ocean Cruising Club, hosted 120 guests for a Designers’ Forum on Saturday, October 21st. Nine recognized naval architects arrived from across the country to participate. Guests came from throughout New England to attend. The event began with an Open House at Lyman-Morse in Thomaston, with designers on site to showcase their latest work. After a break for lunch, a capacity crowd gathered at the Farnsworth’s Wyeth Center for a Designers’ Panel Discussion and Q&A segment. The themes for the two 45-minute discussions were Yachting Today and Tomorrow. John Hanson, Founder and Publisher of Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Magazine served as moderator for the Today segment. Doug Zurn, Zurn Yacht Design; Chuck Paine, CW Paine Yacht Design; Jay Paris, Jay E. Paris Naval Architecture; and Robert Stephens, Stephens Waring Yacht Design covered topics ranging from the pros and cons of custom versus production boats; designing to the rule and the place of sailing and boating in today’s busy world. Besides the designers and naval architects, the events were attended by other notable people in the industry including professional sailor Cam Lewis, yacht interior designer Martha Coolidge, Kevin Burns, designer for Back Cove Yachts, The Landing School’s Jaimie Houtz and Scott Teas architect of 250 Main. Afterwards, guests continued the discussion at a festive reception at 250 Main Hotel catered by Café Miranda.

It is always close racing for the last series of the year as SLYC hosts the annual Frosties Series. The first day of racing was anything but Frosty, with the sun making a rare appearance shorts were more the order of the day. Go To Red lead off the start line before sailing in a hole under a cloud that moved across the course, this allowed the the boats on the right hand side of the beat to slip past before the wind shut down completely.

Comme le niveau de marée ne permet pas de franchir immédiatement l'écluse pour rejoindre le bassin des Salines, nous sommes contraints au demi-tour pour nous amarrer à une bouée devant le port. Et comme d'habitude en été, c'est la cohue à l'ouverture du pont, et tous les bateaux se donnent en spectacle à la grande joie des touristes de passage... Notre but est d'atteindre pour quelques jours, un coin au calme, tout au fond du port.

Happy Holidays All! Q is having some back issues so she is not too mobile at the moment, so I am traveling alone. I decided to visit the Charlie Brown ICE! display at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine,TX. This is a really cool display if you have a chance to get there, and the entire resort is decorated, but dress WARM!!! for ICE! it's only 9 degrees in the ICE! display, you can tell by my face I was trying to really get out of there after about 15 minutes! The complimentary Parka helps but its 9 degrees! LOL! Leave comments below and let us know what you think.
