Le 29 mai dernier, en 13h55’37’’ (*), le Trimaran SVR-Lazartigue, mené par François Gabart, a battu le record de traversée de la Méditerranée en équipage détenu depuis 12 ans par Pascal Bidégorry, également à bord au côté du skipper. Un premier record pour ce bateau qui n’a pas encore fêté son premier anniversaire (mise à l’eau en juillet dernier) mais qui confirme tout le potentiel entrevu depuis plusieurs mois avec notamment la deuxième place, en novembre dernier, lors de la Transat Jacques-Vabre, sa première compétition. Naviguer c’est être à l’affût de toutes les opportunités, et s’avoir s’engouffrer dans la moindre fenêtre météo. A bord du Trimaran SVR-Lazartigue, François Gabart, accompagné de quatre membres d’équipage (Pascal Bidégorry, Antoine Gautier et Émilien Lavigne, directeur et ingénieur de son bureau d’études, Guillaume Gatefait, médiaman) l’a une fois encore parfaitement démontré en s’offrant dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche le record de la Méditerranée entre l’ancien sémaphore de Frioul au large de Marseille et le phare de Sidi Bou Saïd à Carthage, à l’entrée de la baie de Tunis (455 miles théoriques). En 13h55’37’’ (moyenne de 33,7 nœuds/heure soit environ 62,5 km/h), il efface des tablettes la précédente marque détenue depuis mai 2010 par Pascal Bidegorry et ses 11 coéquipiers à bord de Banque Populaire V. Rien n’avait pourtant été prémédité. Le Trimaran SVR-Lazartigue était en effet au cœur d’une tournée méditerranéenne à destination des différents collaborateurs du groupe KRESK. « Nous devons être à Tunis ce dimanche et il se trouve qu’un épisode de mistral se présente, expliquait Gabart, 39 ans, juste avant de prendre le départ. En regardant les données on pense qu’on est capable de traverser dans des temps plutôt corrects, même jouer le record. Alors pourquoi ne pas tenter. OUR SCORING CATEGORIES 1) BUILD QUALITY - This encompasses both the interior and exterior and the overall quality and durability of items like deck hardware, mechanical systems, decking, windows, cabinetry and hardware, flooring, overall surfaces and materials. 2) SAILABILITY - This focuses primarily on the ergonomics of operating the vessel: the location and orientation of sail handling hardware, helm position and visibility, plus overall performance as reported (these are tried and tested boats, so there is plenty of info out there). We believe from our personal experience with many cat owner friends that these boats are capable of sailing quite well when sailed properly, especially on well-planned passages...does this boat make it easy for the crew to do so? 3) TRAMPOLINE! - We approach this with some humor because obviously young kids LOVE the trampolines, and it's Rivers' PRIMARY reason for wanting a cat. That said, the attributes of the foredeck on a cat play heavily into the enjoyment of the boat at anchor. We've been guests on many cats where the kids enjoyed not only bouncing and rolling about on the tramps, but just hanging out and doing their thing, while the adults hang out on the perimeter. This is one of those "extra" spaces on a cat which make it as much a home as a boat, especially if the kids enjoy it. 4) LIVEABILITY - This category encompasses those things that make living on a boat a joy as opposed to a chore. Overall space, intelligent layout, comfort in the lounging areas and the cabins, plentiful storage in numerous areas, a generous galley, easy access to maintenance areas, and simple dinghy lifting for night security and for underway. 5) THE X-FACTORS - This is NOT a typical review category but it should be. This is all about human connection with what is not just a boat, but possibly a home. Do we get the "feels" when we first walk inside? Can we immediately imagine life here and does it makes us smile? A lot of factors play into this and most are not quantifiable. But there are definitely boats that can tick most or even all the boxes, yet still have ZERO X-Factor. If you don't love it, it doesn't matter how perfect it may be on paper. All of these categories will be scored by Loren and I base on 5 thumbs (yeah, it's dumb, but it's also fun) then added together. In this episode - Sometimes the best adventures happen when you step off the boat! This week, we’re soaking up the charm of the Gulf of Corinth and ticking a few big items off the to-do list. Our stop in Trizonia—the only inhabited island in the gulf—was peaceful, but it came with a bit of a mystery. After some light rain, we spotted a sunken boat in the harbor. It’s a stark reminder of the "sink or swim" reality of boat ownership! To make sure we stay on the right side of the waterline, we got to work on some toe rail repairs to keep the deck sealed and solid. While we were busy with the tools, the kids were busy making dozens of new four-legged friends. Let’s just say the local cat population in Trizonia is very well-attended to now! 🐈‍⬛ Next, we sail over to the beautiful waterfront of Galaxidi.
