After crossing the Atlantic from Grenada, navigating the orca attack zone, and surviving the Strait of Gibraltar, we finally caught a break — fair winds and following seas from Gibraltar to Malta. On the surface, it was perfect: calm seas, golden sunsets, and the kind of rhythm sailors dream of. But behind that beauty lies the truth of delivery life — long hours, constant motion, and a relentless pace that never really stops. In this episode, nothing dramatic happens. No storms. No close calls. Just the quiet, steady work that keeps us moving forward. Sometimes, sailing isn’t about what happens. It’s about what doesn’t. If you’re shopping for a performance cruising catamaran, one of the hardest questions to answer is: Why do similar-size catamarans have such different prices? In this conversation, Dean Paarman and Patrick Roscoe explain how catamarans are actually priced — and why the number you first see on a brochure often doesn’t represent the real ownership cost. This video walks through what experienced buyers eventually learn: you’re not just comparing boats… you’re comparing ownership experiences. We cover: • What a “base boat” truly means (and why it varies so much between brands) • Hidden costs that commonly appear after purchase • Why equipment specifications matter more than headline price • The purpose behind the Essential Voyager Package • Launch, commissioning, and handover realities • Training, education, and long-term support • Warranty advocacy and OEM relationships • The importance of owner community and global service networks • Why delivery location matters more than most buyers realize • How resale value and certified pre-owned programs affect true cost of ownership The goal of this video is not to compare brands — but to help you ask better questions when evaluating any catamaran. Because the real value of a cruising yacht is rarely visible on an option sheet. Who This Video Is For? This is especially helpful if you are: - Seriously researching catamarans - Comparing brands in the 45–58 ft range - Planning extended cruising or liveaboard sailing - Concerned about support, resale, or ownership complexity - Trying to understand why prices differ so dramatically Key Takeaway A catamaran purchase is not just a product decision. It’s a long-term service relationship involving training, support, infrastructure, and community. And those things often determine satisfaction far more than initial price. In this episode, we get to Grenada and splash our catamaran, Boketto, after an entire year on the hard. The boat is cosmetically looking wonderful, and there are no uninvited guests or smells that have taken hold in our absence. However, on the list of things that don't work, we include: the generator, the watermaker, the dinghy motor, the new solar array (operator error), a VHF radio, the oven (which is a hazard anyway in the tropics), the plancha (our outdoor "blackstone" cooking surface), our wind speed monitor that lives at the top of the mast, and some other things that I can't even remember. By the end of the first week, we'd only managed to get the solar array queued in with our systems, and have made the aircons *mostly* operational. phew. All the while, living at the dock in Clark's Court Marina and trying to get out and enjoy life in this beautiful place! #liveaboardlife #sailinglife #boatlife #grenada
It’s been a little while since our last upload — thank you for your patience and understanding. Today we’re sharing our view on how things that were worked on during the major refit 2 years ago we completed on our trimaran back in Poland are holding up today. Time is always the best test: it shows what was done right… and what turned out to be far more expensive than expected, with outcomes that didn’t quite meet the expectations or the promises.
