🌍 Épisode 51 Entre barbecue, vent fort et galères de mouillage… la vraie vie en mer ⛵🔥🌧️ Nous sommes toujours à Mustique, et on en profite pour un petit moment convivial sur la plage. Les BBQ mis à disposition nous tendent les bras : on se prépare un bon festin face à la mer… mais comme souvent aux Caraïbes, un bon grain vient s’inviter à la fête 🌧️ Résultat : soirée écourtée et malheureusement, pas de pétanque cette fois-ci ! Le lendemain, nous levons l’ancre direction Baliceaux, la petite île au-dessus de Mustique. La navigation est bien plus sportive que prévu : plus de 20 nœuds de vent, une mer formée… ça bouge ! À l’arrivée, le mouillage ne nous inspire pas confiance. Et comme on le dit souvent en bateau : quand on ne le sent pas, on n’insiste pas. On décide donc de poursuivre directement jusqu’à Bequia. Une belle navigation au cours de laquelle Mathis prend la barre pour s’entraîner dans des conditions bien dynamiques 💪 Une vraie expérience ! Une fois à Bequia, place aux indispensables de la vie à bord : 🧺 lessive ⛽ plein de gasoil (au bidon, évidemment !) 🗑️ poubelles 📄 clearance de sortie On termine la journée par un petit bain bien mérité, l’occasion pour moi de vous montrer l’état de la coque et des hélices après 1 an et demi dans l’eau. Le lendemain, nouvelle étape : de Bequia à Sainte-Lucie. Nous tentons d’abord de mouiller à Marigot Bay, mais après trois essais d’ancrage sans succès… il faut se rendre à l’évidence. On reprend la mer direction Choc Bay, un mouillage que l’on connaît déjà. L’arrivée se fera de nuit… et oui, les galères de mouillage, ça fait aussi partie de la vie en catamaran. La réduction de la production et de la consommation de plastique doit rester prioritaire si nous voulons remédier à la crise des plastiques. Tout comme la garantie d’une composition de ce matériau transparente et sans danger pour la santé et l’environnement. Cependant, dans une optique de transition efficace vers une économie circulaire, de multiples solutions se rependent sur le marché, notamment pour améliorer les chiffres désastreux du recyclage du plastique.   Lors d’une interview faite en octobre 2022, nous avons eu l’opportunité d’échanger avec le directeur scientifique de Carbios, qui nous a présenté leur solution de recyclage basée sur une technologie biologique : l’enzyme. Cette innovation permettrait un recyclage plus performant du PET pour l’ensemble de ses usages ainsi que des textiles en polyester. Nous avons également parlé d’autres utilisations possibles des enzymes pour le traitement d’autres polymères. Certaines sont déjà prouvées d’autres sont en développement.

This video focuses on the gunwales, filleting, stitching removal and carbon fiber taping. She will be the tender to Flying Spur soon! I purchased the pre-cut "kit" to save some time, but the same results can be accomplished by purchasing the build instructions and cutting your own marine-grade plywood. This video is for those who are looking to build their own dinghy, and who wish to learn more about the process. This is the second project Brent and I worked on together, the previous being a 7' pram for Brent. I hope you enjoy, and I hope you take away some successes we had, as well as learning from some of the failures we encountered.

This is the video of my reunion with my family in The Netherlands at Mark's surprise party at work. Mark's only wish for his 20-year work anniversary… was to be with me. But I've been solo sailing around the world for over 1,000 days. So his Xebia colleagues secretly flew me home as a surprise. No one knew — not even our son Sem. In this episode of Sailing Doodles, we explore some of the most famous spots in Phang Nga Bay, Thailand. We begin in the floating village of Koh Panyi, where we hire a traditional Thai longtail boat and head through the mangroves and sea caves. Then we sail our boat to the famous James Bond Island, the filming location from The Man with the Golden Gun. Later, we make our way to Ao Po, where I revisit the spot where my boat dragged anchor during a major storm years ago. I share that old footage and relive one of the more stressful moments I’ve had on the water.
