► The big players in Spain’s multihull industry had already organized a number of gatherings at Port Ginesta, near Barcelona... But this year, from May 1 to 5, a proper multihull show for second-hand and charter boats was held. Despite a lackluster attendance at this premiere, the event clearly demonstrated the potential of a specialized show in Catalonia. Multihulls have got the wind in their sails, and Spain is no exception to the rule: its coastline and the nearby Balearic Islands are a classic Mediterranean sailing destination for yachtsmen on two or three hulls. From the America’s Cup to boat shows in Palma, Valencia and Barcelona, Spanish boating is becoming increasingly significant in Europe. That’s why Andrés Oliva and Valentina Libri, influential players in the sector, decided to set up Multihull Fest, the first show dedicated to multihulls. Port Ginesta was chosen because of its prime location just a few miles south-west of Barcelona, and because it is one of a group of multihull-friendly Catalan ports reserving a substantial number of berths for visiting multihulls. Despite the lateness of announcing the date, a large number of exhibitors - both sales and charter companies – were there in force, with over 15 units on display. Along the pontoons, there was a Bali 5.4 with its genoa flocked with the effigy of Messi among the 5 examples presented by Med Cat Yachts, a NEEL 47 and a NEEL 43 Performance, a Lagoon 630 from Catamaran Center and, among others, an Aventura 37 dedicated to charter. This catamaran was exhibited by Rumbo Norte Ibiza. In addition to the show, two racing events specifically adapted to multihulls meant we got to see the highly motivated crews out on the water, delighted to be taking part in this first edition.
On our sail from St. Kitts to Montserrat our electric furling headsail stopped working. We figured after we anchor, we could address the problem but when we tried to anchor, the windlass stopped working…When it rains it pours! During this episode, we will replace parts of the head sail motor to get her back in working order. As for the windlass, we will do it the old fashion way in the meantime. #selden #boatlife #boatwork
We are working through our list of boat jobs and next on the list is painting in the boat saloon and cleaning the bilges. Sometimes the never-ending list of boat jobs can feel overwhelming but for us it just keeps bringing us closer to living on board, sailing on our Beneteau Oceanis 430 and living our boat life dream. We are Gav and Shezz an Aussie couple with a dream to sail and scuba dive around the world. We bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 in October 2023 with zero sailing experience but the belief that we can do this. We have filmed our journey from looking for boats, buying the boat, downsizing so we can liveaboard and all the messy wonderful life stuff in between. Join us now as we start to get our boat prepared for liveaboard life. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. We promise you will have a laugh! Welcome aboard Astrid The Wombat Gav and Shezz You can also find us on Instagram and Facebook: Sailing Astrid the Wombat

Waves in Caves! Dangerous combination on our exploration of the Rocky Dundas Caves in Exuma Bahamas. We couldn’t leave our Compass Cay anchorage without exploring Rocky Dundas. Two caves, that you can only enter underneath a rock ledge await exploration. We went at low tide to make entry easiest, but the waves were a little rough. The surf made it super difficult to get out of the water once inside the cave. Stephen and I are no strangers to adventure challenges, but this was exceptionally difficult. We had to pull ourselves up by holding on to jagged rocks. Once in, it was very beautiful and the dome was probably 30 ft high. We then set out to figure out how to exit the cave. Incoming surf would just push us back into the jagged rock. We finally decided the best side would be where we had the most holding. In the meantime, two other sailors ventured in from SV Paper Sails. They were as surprised by how rough it was as well. The first cave is marked by an arch - there is also a mooring ball to keep your dinghy safe. What’s inside? Walls lined with colorful algae, stalactites and stalagmites, fossilized beetles, and other saline.
