This time with high tide so we have 0,5 meter extra water under the keel ;) We set sail to the big island of Wadi Gemal, a national parc. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. Today we install a Victron MultiPlus Inverter as part of our big switch from 220V to 120V… and what should’ve been a simple swap turned into a full electrical overhaul. Out came the old Winston BMS wiring, new bus bars went in, a heat-damaged terminal was discovered (yikes), and we held our breath reconnecting the first battery. No sparks. Good start. Shore power test? Charging at 120 amps and humming hard. By sunset, we had 120V running onboard. But are we going to regret giving up 220V? When you’re working far from your shop, battery systems matter more than brand loyalty. I’m restoring a steel boat in Alaska, and after traveling 1,000 miles with a limited tool kit, I made a mistake: I brought the tool… but not the right battery. That problem led me to test something I honestly didn’t think would work - a universal power tool battery that claims to run both Milwaukee and Makita tools (adapters available for many other brands too - DeWalt, Craftsmen, Black & Decker, Ryobi, Worx, Bosch, Porter Cable . . ).
