Three years ago, I went up and down the East coast of the USA looking for a sailboat to buy. With a considerable amount of help and advice from my sailing mentor Don. I purchased this boat in Cape Cod Massachusetts for $23,000.00. At that time the boat was on the hard with it's mast down in an old boatyard miles and miles from the ocean. It was hard to imagine that it would be the boat for me. But after about a month of working with the seller and his broker. We splashed the boat, stepped the mast and sea trialed her. After that, I was confident the sailboat was what I was looking for. But after several major improvements and upgrades I've made during major refits. The boats value is now far greater than when I started. As is it's practical usability can speaks for itself through the adventures I've had and showcase on my social media pages "Adventureman Dan". From this boat I love to explore and go on adventures wherever my anchor rests. The boats name perfectly explains what it represents: -Adventure: (An unusual and exciting or daring experience. Or to engage in daring or risky activity.) -Borne: (Carried or transported by the thing specified.) -Adventureborne = "What brings me to the adventure." This is a humble sailboat. But that is an upside I think. Because unlike most catamarans and other larger vessels. This sailboat is highly affordable and has an extremely low cost to maintain. These boats are solid, they are capable, they are cool and unique looking. But what i like about them most is the feeling of invincibility you get when you're onboard the EXPLR 9. The 42 exhibits her style and a strong personality. Her performance is a function of the strength of design as well as meticulous construction. The lines of this good-looking boat were drawn by VPLP and Patrick le Qument, while incorporating all the distinctive Lagoon features: vertical windows, single-level cockpit and saloon, integral deck hatches and ergonomic helm station. With its rig moved further aft, high-aspect mainsail, self-tacking jib, the option of having a code 0 and an asymmetric spinnaker, the 42 can adapt to all conditions and all speeds! There was constant attention to the elimination of excess weight during the design of this model: production of the coach roof by injection for total control of weight, and centering of all heavy items for better weight distribution (rigging centered, chain locker, generator, water tanks). The helm station is designed to facilitate operation by a small crew, optimize circulation and open up direct access to the deck and the cockpit. The helm station is protected by a composite bimini (option) with sliding cover and a direct stair to the coach roof and boom. Maneuver area is based around 2 winches for all operations. The self-tacking jib allows outstandingly efficient tacking. The 42s cockpit layout is truly innovative! The space provided between the single level saloon, the aft crossbeam and the various sunbathing areas is unprecedented on this size of boat. With aft platforms and steps suspended and widened; the transom skirts create a new space for leisure and relaxation. Superlatives abound when describing the owners suite! Light floods the entire cabin by virtue of the generous hatches, portlights and several openings. Built by the Beneteau Group the Excess 12 will appeal to the sailors who don't just want to cross oceans and instead see themselves sailing for sailing sake, or inviting the whole family and creating priceless memories. Amazing visability, enjoyable sailing and cool styling i can see this cat appealing to the young or young at heart. When you have access to the R&D department of the worlds largest boat builder you generally come out with some pretty cool product and i found the Excess 12 to be cool indeed. This is a cat i would happily enjoy long weekends on with another family, coastal blasts when the wind is behind you just for the fun of it and regatta sailing up in the Whitsundays which not something you can honestly do on many other designs that follow the 'floating apartment' design rules. I did film some detailed sailing aboard this cracker of a cat but i microphone battery died so you'll have to makde do which what i've put together for you which is quite detailed anyway. With serious hardware onboard, including a heavy duty leaning post with rocket launchers and a helm station that feels like it's aboard a much bigger boat this is a great fishing boat with some nice features. One thing that stands out is the attention to detail not commonly seen on boats of this size, price and class. The grab rails surround a sturdy windshield making for a comfortable, safe place to pilot the boat. This 18-footer is spacious with clever toe rails tucked on the sides for locking your feet in while angling in rough weather and there are even built-in rulers on the toe rails. Starting from the cockpit that's perfect for staging water activities we step up a flight of stairs to the aft deck. This area features one of the two al fresco dining spaces aboard. Here we can either step inside to the full beam salon or take a spiral stair case up to the expansive bridge. Heading up the stairs brings us to a a davit and toy storage area that features a ribbed inflatable and 2 wave runners. Heading forward brings us past a hot tub and to the fully outfitted wet bar. Adjacent to the bar is the second outdoor dining area. Continuing forward brings us the bridge helm station that's been outfitted with new Furuno electronics. Flaking either side are wing stations for docking and just to port is access to the sliding door yielding access to the pilot house. Back in the lower aft deck we open two sliding doors to reveal a massive full beam salon that's incredibly wide open. We are immediately greeted by new distressed tile flooring at our feet and see a great conversation pit where there are two sofas facing each other. Forward of this brings us to the indoor formal dining area. Its nice to note that this is ALL FREE STANDING furniture so, the yacht can be customized to your taste easily. Immediately behind the dining area is a full wet bar and huge 80' LED Smart TV. Heading to port from here takes us to a set of stairs leading to (3) of the guest accommodations. The full beam master stateroom is located mid ship and features a king size bed, new LG LED TV, (2) large cedar lined closet and a sought after his-and-hers baths arrangement. There are (2) identical guest staterooms located just aft of the master. These offer a very cleaver layout with a double bed to one side and an additional single bed adjacent in both cabins. Back in the salon if we hang a right to starboard we find a hallway with day head and pilothouse access to port, a sliding door with bow access to starboard and acts as the entrance to the Country Kitchen all the way forward. Her galley is huge and has a center island and all newer appliances. Just forward of this is a breakfast nook. And, to starboard is access to the huge VIP. The VIP stateroom is located all the way forward and is more than generous with a private staircase featuring a queen size bed facing aft and comfortable ensuite bathroom. Found on the bow of LADY SHARON GALE we have tons of sun pad space with a sun bed forward, huge sound pads just above accessed via built in stairs and of course, the ground tackle located all the way forward. Her exterior lines, created by Omega Architects, encapsulate the shipyard’s design DNA and style with a ‘pelican beak’ bow that expresses a trademark negative sheer. Her design also accomplishes an impressive feat by conferring elegance to the yacht’s profile, which delivers carefully proportioned curves and style features while perfectly disguising the yacht’s large interior volume. That this has been achieved while maximizing the views from her interior guest areas and without impacting on her exterior spaces is a further demonstration of the attention to detail that Heesen puts into every facet of the yachts it creates. The result is a hull that is not only supremely comfortable in all conditions, but which also offers an impressive 6,000-mile transoceanic range at 10 knots. Despite her extensive interior volumes, Abbracci retains superb exterior spaces which were designed to maximize guests’ experiences. The sun deck offers multiple relaxation areas with a custom mosaic spa pool forward and a social seating and sunbathing area aft, both benefiting from extensive views while underway or at anchor. Between them, an enclosed gym and spa area – complete with steam room, sauna, and massage room – not only creates the perfect indoor-outdoor area for relaxation but also confers privacy, as well as wind protection to the aft deck space. It is testament to Heesen’s craftsmanship and attention to detail that Abbracci’s interior remains largely the same as when she was built, except for a few personalizing touches of her new owners that include elements of the soft furnishings and additional art.
