März geplant – allerdings haben wir Corona vorher nicht gefragt. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Welcome to part 2 of our Seawind 1600 catamaran boat tour! In this episode we’re sharing details about the more technical systems on the boat. There are two 80 hp Yanmar engines installed in spacious engine rooms. The Spectra watermaker is mounted in the port engine room and makes about 15 gallons of water an hour. The most amazing thing after the obviously incredible act of making potable water is that it can run on the batteries. The starboard engine set up is the same as the port and the engine room also contains the water heater. A fabulous water heater. On to the helm stations. One of the main features that made Seawind the obvious choice for us. The helms are shaded and provide excellent visibility. We opted to install the main navigation screen on the port side. It’s amazing to seamlessly switch control from port to starboard helm, especially when docking. Let’s talk about the daggerboards. For us, this was a non-negotiable feature from the get go. We live in an area where it’s essential to be able to sail up wind. We’re not sailing with the trade winds yet, so when we want to sail to Biscayne Bay or the Keys and the wind is from the south, we can still go. Without the daggerboards that wouldn’t be possible or it would take forever. We were pointing at 40 degrees the other day and it was fabulous! The rudders are self-floating and super easy to raise. With the daggerboards and rudders up the draft is just 2’1” so we can go just about anywhere which is essential for sailing in the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. A Fischer Panda generator supplements our heavy duty electrical demands when we’re off shore/on anchor. I can't believe how silent it is! And it only uses .8 gallons of diesel an hour. Talk about efficiency. We love that the anchor chain is not on deck. No unsightly rust stains for us! The anchor is so easy to deploy, with convenient foot buttons at the windlass and controls at the port helm station. The amount of energy the solar panels produce still blows my mind (800 watts in total). We’re easily able to charge the batteries in sunny/partly sunny weather and live off that energy unless we use the washer/dryer or air conditioning. Aand the bonus feature is the water collection gutter system that allows us to connect a hose to the hard bimini top to fill the water tanks with rain water! It’s seriously incredible how close I feel to nature now. We are truly filled with joy at the idea of sustainably living off grid! In this episode, we also share how our girl performs in a variety of sailing conditions. We’ve been sailing with everything from 6-27 knots of wind so far. The polar diagram shows the max hull speed is 23.1 knots at 100 degrees with about 27 knots of wind. We recently sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to Biscayne Bay and back. On the way south, the wind was about 20 knots with gusts to 27 from the north. With the higher winds we had two reefs in the main and one in the jib and averaged about 10 knots which is consistent with what the polars prescribe. On the way back up north the wind shifted to the south at about 16 knots so we pulled out the gennaker for the first time. We averaged 6 knots with the wind at about 160 degrees. A spinnaker would have definitely optimized the performance in these conditions. We recognize we have a lot to learn and we’re looking forward to sailing as much as we can. A few years back I met Larry Graf, owner of Aspen Power Catamarans, at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.  We produced a video walkthrough of his Aspen 40 that only had 4 hulls in production at the time.  Since then he has produced over 25 hulls of that same model and the vessels have proven themselves to their owners and in the market.   The camaraderie that we had on that video and it's viewing success-https://youtu.be/EYpBaEI6UvU - prompted Larry and his son Steve to invite me out to Washington to produce new marketing materials for Aspen.  It was certainly chilly in October, but we had 2 days of non-stop filming and fun.  Larry is an absolute master engineer and if I wasn't such a blow boater, I may consider owning his amazingly detailed and thoroughly thought out Aspen C120. Join us on the Self-guided Tour;) of 2020 LEOPARD 53 POWERCAT. We have been looking forward to Touring this Cataraman for a while and are very excited to show it to all of you! As we have anticipated this Yacht has a great and functional layout and modern design while still feeling warm and cozy. The highlights were definitely the cockpit, the flybridge, the galley, and The Master Cabin. But I was very impressed by some surprising storage features, design resolutions in the guest heads, and the spaciousness of the guest cabins. Heads down it's a great Good-looking PowerCat which would make a great liveaboard, Caribbean Cruiser, and /or an amazing 2nd home on the water. There is some damp staining on some of the interior woodwork and upholstery from before we owned her when the windows where leaking. The boat is now BONE DRY. I went back to her yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks and there was literally a mug full of water in the bilge, I was amazed! So yes there's some paintwork which needs touching up and a few annoying marks on the new upholsterybut it's not because the boat leaks, its from when it used to leak before we did the windows 2. The toilet isn't connected up and the sea cocks are in unknown condition. Honestly, we never used the sea toilet and just had a portablepotty. But I recently got this sea toilet which I know is working fine. I've popped it in the boat but not yet connected up the water pipes. It's a 10 minute job which I can do for you but I also think it would be a good idea to inspect and change or at lease service the sea cocks as we didn't use them and they seem a bit stiff. But that's something which again, you'd do anyway when buying a boat. LOCKDOWN Ok so we know it's lockdown and everything is a bit messed up and we are happy to accommodate that. With that in mind we'll need to negotiate on collection and payment etc. Payment I don't want any comebacks on this sale or any messing about so I will meet the purchaser, in person, at the boat to go through everything and even do a sea trial, weather permitting. With that in mind it's payment, in cash, on collection only I'm afraid guys.

A quick little walk-through of our floating home. 'Camara' is an Ocean 80 that participated in a few of the Whitbread Round-The-World-Races back in the 80's. We salvaged her from the scrap heap back in 2015 and rebuilt/refitted her over the following 3 1/2 years without any outside labour and on a tight budget. We never had the time or budget to turn her into a 'superyacht' but our goal was all along to turn her into a comfortable cruising yacht. Having outgrown our last boat as we 'added' to the crew with two stowaways along the way, this was the perfect project boat for us to continue our dream of living a life afloat as a family.
