After an unintentionally long hiatus, we've finally started to catch up on video production! Life has an annoying habit of getting in the way of dreams, but we are determined to realize our dreams of a liveaboard life We are very happy to begin posting anew today, and fully intend to post every Sunday as long as we have content to post. Please enjoy this series of the Leopard Catamaran Open House! We had a lot of fun crawling all over these beautiful yachts. We also learned a great deal from the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show.. We learned that the Roxant stabilizer paired with our very nice DSLR camera was a useless combination for the type of filming we are doing! So, for this series, we purchased a Vimble 2 (cellphone gimble) and filmed everything on our iphones (7 and 8). While the video was ok, the audio left a lot to be desired. Also, the phones began to heat up in the hot July Florida sun as the filming went on, causing weird glitches, and the gimble got tired. I had the opportunity to sit down with the legend John Kretschmer to discuss the lessons he has learned over the last 40 years logging more than 300,000 bluewater miles! in more than 60 boats (accrued during his time as a delivery skipper). During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. But his life dream is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China, where they were both working. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie loved about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. When locked down in Cape Town South Africa we had the spare time to start putting together some videos that we wanted to share with our family and friends. Cruising the world and life onboard, is pretty difficult to describe to people verbally. Making videos about this lifestyle help them understand why we love it. This was the beginning of our sailing channel. The early footage was never intended to entertain, or enlighten, so the early vids are a bit of a patchwork. From South Africa onwards, we actually started filming with intent. Although with only the bare equipment, namely an iPhone and a go pro. We would love to get some better gear to improve our production quality, but due to planet Earth still being in lockdown and our cruising in remote locations, we’ve been unable to even buy a tripod! Soon, we hope. Jamie has spent decades working towards this dream of cruising around the world on a sailboat. However, it was not his only dream. Whilst being raised by a single mum on a single parents pension he would dream of becoming an astronaut! After finishing high school, and realising there is very limited opportunities for space travel growing up in country Australia (whom have no space program!), he got his first job in a factory, and focused his energy on the next best thing….. Flying. After a chance joy flight with a friend, Jamie found a new passion and with his factory job, managed to pay for one flying lesson per week. After 6 years he had all the qualifications to fly professionally. However, finding that first job is the real challenge. That came in the outback Australian township of Mt Isa, starting out on a four seater, Cessna 172 flying teachers, doctors, politicians and local aboriginals to wherever they needed to go. His career now spans nearly 30 years and having flown and commanded both Boeing and Airbus heavy jets around the world he now had the chance to fulfil his sailing dreams. He found the right design vessel, had it built and saved up a kitty. He also found the right girl! Finally it was time. UNTIE THE LINES I hope that our videos inspire other dreamers to reach out, focus and obtain your dreams. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing". Life is not supposed to be about just getting by. I find it ridiculous to spend your life paying off a mortgage just so that at the end of if, you have somewhere to live. SETTING THE BAR To be the flagship of the walk around series, the Sun Odyssey 490 had to set the bar for innovation, performance, and comfort. Phillippe Briand and Jean-Marc Piaton took on the challenge and designed a boat that not only sets the standard for the Sun Odyssey range, but redefines what is capable in the 50 foot cruising market. In this design, Lombard added even more hull volume to the Sun Odyssey lines, delivering greater sailing performance, more interior space for guests comfort, and more lounge areas on topside. As with every Sun Odyssey, the cockpit ergonomics are second to none. Every sheet is cleverly led to the helm station, where the boat can be easily single or double handed. The massive cockpit lounge is framed by the iconic walk around decks, which make movement around the boat easier than ever before. However, the game changer comes when the convertible coamings, the unfolding seat backs, are set up as beds. The entire aft eight feet of the boat transform into a cushioned sun bathing deck! LUXURIOUS INTERIOR The open concept interior is bathed in light, as the main salon features many rows of windows and hatches. The central U-shaped galley is optimally placed for comfort while under way, as well as serving meals in the salon. In the 490, the nav station is particularly emphasized, as there is an aft facing bench added to it, elevating this feature into a coffee nook or home office. However, it’s the forward stateroom where this boat really sets itself apart. The square queen bed has plenty of space to walk around on all sides, and the large central armoire is perfect for mounting a television for viewing in bed. The gorgeous shower stall is placed on centerline, allowing for 6’6” headroom; a luxury usually only found on much larger boats.

With the children leaving home we decided to sell our house in the UK and buy a boat in Holland. After two years refitting our Hans Christian 48T we have now set off a world voyage. We are retiring early because we want to attempt this voyage in good health and while we're fit and strong enough to really enjoy it. We will have to work a bit as we go until we can draw our pensions and we honestly don't know how well that will work. In our real lives we are journalists and filmmakers so it was only natural for use to document our travels by filming the journey. We aim to produce a professional standard vlog of the whole trip and try to give the viewer a real insight into what it's like to live and travel on a 48 foot sailboat. Our first aim is to sail South. After a winter getting iced in on the Markermeer in the Netherlands Judy insisted on warmer weather! So if you start from Episode 1 you will see us setting off from Eastbourne in the UK and travelling along the South Coast to Plymouth to enter a rally called ARC Portugal. Our first goal is to reach the Mediterranean and that means sailing across the infamous Bay of Biscay. This was a very good test for our boat as the bay lived up to it's fearsome reputation and split the whole fleet with a force 10 storm. Storm Miguel cut through our path and meant we had to run to mainland Spain to escape the massive seas and fearsome winds. Six boats couldn't make it in time and spent several very uncomfortable days at sea. The fleet had several broken boats, but thankfully no injured people. And this was just Episode 2! The excitement continued for the rest of our trip to the Med. Dolphins played in our bow wave, we sampled fantastic local foods and wines, great port in Porto! We found some beautiful anchorages and visit some wonderful historic places like Lisbon in Portugal, Cadiz in Spain and the fascinating port of Gibraltar. We will show you what it's like to winter in the Mediterranean, how much it all costs and give hints and tips on where to go how to save money with your boat and the places you stay. We are also talking to other sailors. After years of broadcasting journalism we know how to get peoples stories and we regularly film other sailors to show their boats and lifestyle as well as ours. We can always learn from others. Our long term plan is to spend a few years in the Mediterranean, on our list of place we want to visit are; Mallorca, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, Tunisia, to name but a few! When we feel we've seen the best of what the Med has to offer we will cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean, we are hoping we can fit in a trip to the Azores on the way. We have no idea how long we might want to stay in the Caribbean but we do intend to have at least one excursion up the Eastern seaboard of the United States to visit the wonderful sailing areas of Florida, Virginia, sailing Meccas such as Chesapeake bay and hopefully get all the way up to New York. Of course the South Pacific is somewhere every sailor wants to go and will be a real draw for us. So going through the Panama canal will be a real milestone and we really look forward to having the big doors shut behind us and sailing into the biggest sailing playground of all! #sailingfairisle
