With our three sailing dogs back onboard, we set off on our longest passage yet: 40 hours across the Mediterranean, two nights at sea, fiery sunsets, star-filled skies, and the steady rhythm of open water carrying us towards a brand new continent. Halfway along the Tunisian coast, we tried to drop anchor for a short rest â only to be told by the coastguard that anchoring wasnât allowed. Tired but determined, we pushed on through a second night passage before finally reaching Monastir Marina. At last, Kaia is safely tied up in her new winter berth in Tunisia, where we begin life as full-time liveaboards in North Africa. Sailing Rules of the Road When Sailboat Meets Sailboat There are only three basic possibilities, and three basic boating rules of the road to follow, when your sailboat approaches another sailboat. Rule 1: When you are on the same tack as the other boat, the leeward boat has the right-of-way. Rule 2: When you are on opposite tacks, the starboard tack boat has the right-of-way. Rule 3: If you are overtaking the other boat, or it is overtaking you, the boat ahead (the overtaken boat) has the right-of-way.
