Before we bought Adhara and became liveaboards we went on a sailing charter in Lanzarote for a week to try out if we could imagine living on a sailboat and how I’d feel about sailing in general. We did that in November of 2019 and a funny story about it is that I absolutely hated the first day! 😆 I couldn’t imagine why someone would actually enjoy sailing. I was scared, I got wet, I was freezing and I felt seasick for 6 hours straight and had no clue what a sheet is and what wind angle means. Apparent or true wind… wait, what? You guys can’t imagine the disappointment in Jans's eyes when I told him „no way in hell are we doing that“ 😂 Spoiler: the story has a good ending 😉 The second day we had the most beautiful weather and sailed around La Graciosa and Montaña Clara. I fell in love with the otherworldly landscape and raw beauty of these islands and enjoyed the gentle Atlantic swell, the idea of sailing as a means to explore this beautiful world we live on grew on me! The first week of the season ending Frosties Regatta at Strangford Lough Yacht Club were sailed in perfect conditions. With a steady 10 to 15 knots which built steadily during the afternoon before topping out at 15 to 20 knots for race 2. The team on GTR pulled of a near perfect gybe coming down the last run to consolidate the their leading while flying into the bottom mark at of 8 knots of boats speed. After a shacking start to the season in big breezes it is great to see the crew working like clock work as the seasons on Going to Red races towards it's close.
