Before we bought Adhara and became liveaboards we went on a sailing charter in Lanzarote for a week to try out if we could imagine living on a sailboat and how I’d feel about sailing in general. We did that in November of 2019 and a funny story about it is that I absolutely hated the first day! 😆 I couldn’t imagine why someone would actually enjoy sailing. I was scared, I got wet, I was freezing and I felt seasick for 6 hours straight and had no clue what a sheet is and what wind angle means. Apparent or true wind… wait, what? You guys can’t imagine the disappointment in Jans's eyes when I told him „no way in hell are we doing that“ 😂 Spoiler: the story has a good ending 😉 The second day we had the most beautiful weather and sailed around La Graciosa and Montaña Clara. I fell in love with the otherworldly landscape and raw beauty of these islands and enjoyed the gentle Atlantic swell, the idea of sailing as a means to explore this beautiful world we live on grew on me! So grateful for this life! Whales, dolphins, fresh fish and amazing sunsets every day! 9 years ago every single person around me said I was crazy sailing 2000nm from the Netherlands to Ibiza in winter on a 28ft boat with no experience. Experienced sailors said I wouldn’t even make it to Belgium (our neighbor country) And look at my life now. Still no money on my account (16 dollars now to be honest) but I wouldn’t want to chance my life for anything. I’ve got the most beautiful house to travel the world with, meeting amazing people daily and have adventures and experiences that no money can’t buy. Big shout out to all my sponsors that make it possible to pay for my boat maintenance so I can safely cross oceans and replace materials and products that the salt water and sun love to destroy. I think and appreciate you every day looking at my beautiful sails.
