Before we bought Adhara and became liveaboards we went on a sailing charter in Lanzarote for a week to try out if we could imagine living on a sailboat and how I’d feel about sailing in general. We did that in November of 2019 and a funny story about it is that I absolutely hated the first day! 😆 I couldn’t imagine why someone would actually enjoy sailing. I was scared, I got wet, I was freezing and I felt seasick for 6 hours straight and had no clue what a sheet is and what wind angle means. Apparent or true wind… wait, what? You guys can’t imagine the disappointment in Jans's eyes when I told him „no way in hell are we doing that“ 😂 Spoiler: the story has a good ending 😉 The second day we had the most beautiful weather and sailed around La Graciosa and Montaña Clara. I fell in love with the otherworldly landscape and raw beauty of these islands and enjoyed the gentle Atlantic swell, the idea of sailing as a means to explore this beautiful world we live on grew on me! The Kerr 32 HighJacker lead the way in the first race of the annual strangford lough narrows series. The sun was peaking through the clouds just after the start on the first run before the rain and wind built with puffs over 30 knots. The Kerr 32 slipped away for the the J109 GTR on the way to the bottom mark before stretching their lead on the first beat. As the rain and wind kicking in the during the second half of the race the J109 powered on to victory both over the line and on corrected time.
