Before we bought Adhara and became liveaboards we went on a sailing charter in Lanzarote for a week to try out if we could imagine living on a sailboat and how I’d feel about sailing in general. We did that in November of 2019 and a funny story about it is that I absolutely hated the first day! 😆 I couldn’t imagine why someone would actually enjoy sailing. I was scared, I got wet, I was freezing and I felt seasick for 6 hours straight and had no clue what a sheet is and what wind angle means. Apparent or true wind… wait, what? You guys can’t imagine the disappointment in Jans's eyes when I told him „no way in hell are we doing that“ 😂 Spoiler: the story has a good ending 😉 The second day we had the most beautiful weather and sailed around La Graciosa and Montaña Clara. I fell in love with the otherworldly landscape and raw beauty of these islands and enjoyed the gentle Atlantic swell, the idea of sailing as a means to explore this beautiful world we live on grew on me! Jack Roy joined the board of Irish Sailing in 2013 and was President from 2017 to 2020. During this time he led with great talent and dedication, and always with a sense of fun and humour. The extent of his influence and popularity is shown in the tributes received by Irish Sailing from people around the world who worked with him during his presidency. Jack finished his presidency during COVID lockdown when face to face celebrations were restricted, so we marked the occasion by publishing his last speech and a slideshow of his time as Irish Sailing President.
