And it was another one of those bad news days. After pulling up the deck on the outside we realised that the wood rot got into the samson post right on deck level. After poking a knife into the samson post to determine how far along the wood rot has gone (hoping we could safe the samson post) we quickly realised that it's rotten almost halfway through and it was a hard decision, I do have to admit it took a bit of convincing, I really wanted to save the old post, I really didn't want another project, it's all getting a bit overwhelming lately, like what the hell was I thinking, buying a timber boat... But yeah the boat builder and a few other friends did talk some sense into me, it is probably not the safest idea to moor your boat on a half rotten post. In this video we show the condition of the bulkheads on a Seaway 25 after 44 years and the dangers of not checking them. This Seaway like many over the years had its Port bulkhead which was a 1/2 bulkhead that connected to the centreboard case to support it, removed to allow easier access internally. We are refitting it as it was designed and built in 1980. All the woodwork is done by Frechevile Heeney Boatbuilders in Paynesville Victoria. #seaway25 #woodwork #boatbuilding
