And it was another one of those bad news days. After pulling up the deck on the outside we realised that the wood rot got into the samson post right on deck level. After poking a knife into the samson post to determine how far along the wood rot has gone (hoping we could safe the samson post) we quickly realised that it's rotten almost halfway through and it was a hard decision, I do have to admit it took a bit of convincing, I really wanted to save the old post, I really didn't want another project, it's all getting a bit overwhelming lately, like what the hell was I thinking, buying a timber boat... But yeah the boat builder and a few other friends did talk some sense into me, it is probably not the safest idea to moor your boat on a half rotten post. So here we go, winching the old post out to use it as a template to make a new one :) IG: @ yvonnemarianna.travels Patreon: SailingStormy

With several hundred nautical miles behind us we visited a whole series of Islands that are part of the majestic Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar. One of the last pristine island groups in the world, yet untouched and not overrun by tourism and industries. which would be the one big key to making sure this part of the world stays as it is - even in the future generations to come More than 150 species could be identified, many of the endangered around the world. Adding even more of a reason to the key of why we are here: Protecting the Mergui Archipelago and declaring the whole area as one Big Marine Protected Area or No Take Zone. This would mean no more fishing, no access for Tourism or other industries and make sure, that coral reefs will stay as pristine as they are now with recovering fish stocks all around them. At the moment still a dream, but with continuous hard work and your support it can become a reality! When we were sailing towards The Berlenga Archipelago, in between Porto and Lisbon at the westcoast of Portugal, all of a sudden some grey fins came our way: dolphins! It was a joyful bunch, swimming under each other and past each other, jumping in front of the boat. It’s so great to see these animals, it’s always a welcome surprise!

“Excuse me sir, I think you have some stuff growing on your face... 5 months under the sea has led to some sponge growth out of his orifices and we couldn’t be happier.” Watch this short video shot by the team behind Beyond the Reef. Who are they? In a nutshell, Beyond The Reef works to create a diverse reef ecosystem for marine species to inhabit and thrive in where the seafloor would otherwise remain desolate and damaged. All their projects are geared to simultaneously encourage local community education and pride in the surrounding underwater habitat.
