And it was another one of those bad news days. After pulling up the deck on the outside we realised that the wood rot got into the samson post right on deck level. After poking a knife into the samson post to determine how far along the wood rot has gone (hoping we could safe the samson post) we quickly realised that it's rotten almost halfway through and it was a hard decision, I do have to admit it took a bit of convincing, I really wanted to save the old post, I really didn't want another project, it's all getting a bit overwhelming lately, like what the hell was I thinking, buying a timber boat... But yeah the boat builder and a few other friends did talk some sense into me, it is probably not the safest idea to moor your boat on a half rotten post. If you listen to the various discussions around the docks, you know that there is significant disparities among sailors concerning fixed docks and floating docks. For Toni and I, nothing beats a floating dock and we think most catamaran sailors would agree. Fixed docks required line adjustments, fender movements, and simply getting on and off the boat safely depends on the tides. However, a floating docks are a set it, and forget it.
