Sam is finally HOME… and it feels so good to have our crew back together again 🤍 After weeks away working offshore, we’re making the most of our time together back in Gladstone. This week, we join our good mate James for a sea trial on his uncle’s newly purchased boat — putting her through her paces and seeing how she performs out on the water. Then the next day turns into something pretty special… We head off on a spontaneous tiki tour around Gladstone with friends from MV Nelson Star. Living on a boat means we can move our home and travel, and one of the most incredible parts of this lifestyle is the friendships we build and the adventures we share. Thanks for being part of our journey! The transformation is unreal… and honestly, the teak on our sailboat turned out SO GOOD. And the best part? We saved HUNDREDS of dollars doing it ourselves. In this episode, we are cleaning the teak on our sailboat which also happens to be our full time home, a sailboat named 'Emma James'. We are tackling everything from the aft bench seat, dolphin seats, and rear deck seat, to the shower floor and trims. Over time, teak can go grey, patchy, and tired… but instead of paying a tradie hundreds of dollars, we decided to try the JustTeak system and do it ourselves. And the results? You’ll have to see the before and after to believe it. Interested in the product we used? It is called 'Just Teak' and we have linked it here: https://www.just-teak.com/product/justteak-sealer-oil-restoration-kit-choice-of-2-shades-and-sizes/ Chapters 00:00 - Welcome Aboard 04:00 - Assessing the Teak | Before Condition 09:00 - Starting the Teak Clean | Step 1 Begins 10:00 - Shower Teak Restoration | Floor & Trim 13:20 - Step 2: Applying Teak Brightener 17:20 - Dolphin Seats Transformation | Cleaner + Brightener 19:10 - Day 3: Applying Teak Sealer 27:20 - Final Reveal | Before & After Results --------------------------------- 🎉 WANT TO KEEP VIDEOS COMING? We’re back in Gladstone Marina… and this week it’s just Cait and Charlie holding down the boat while Sam is offshore working aboard the AMSA Emergency Tow Vessel. This is what life really looks like between adventures. We’re ticking off the never-ending boat jobs — sewing new seat cushions, helping friends with fuel runs, running errands, and settling into the rhythm of marina life as a duo. Sam was meant to swing off this week… but as anyone in the maritime world knows — plans are written in the sand at low tide. Instead, he’s been asked to stay on longer. So rather than a reunion, we’re doing the next best thing — dropping a bag of essentials (toothbrush, charger… and most importantly, COFFEE!) at the office so he can grab it on crew change day. This is the side of sailing you don’t always see — the waiting, the juggling, the real life in between. This week we take on one of Australia’s most thrilling tidal passages — The Narrows at Gladstone. After positioning ourselves the day before, we depart early to catch the narrow high-tide window needed to transit this incredible channel. At low tide, up to 1.6 metres of land emerges, making the passage impossible without planning (you need 1.6m + your draft in tide to get through!). Once even used as a cattle crossing, it begs the question — are we sailing a channel… or sailing over land? With mangroves just feet away and strong tidal flow pushing us along, there’s no room for mistakes. Come along as we navigate tight bends, shallow waters, and continue our full-time sailing life as a family on the Great Barrier Reef. ~ Sam, Cait & Charlie xx Chapters 00:00 – Setting the Scene 00:56 – Bug Invasion on Deck 🦟 02:22 – High Tide Window… It’s Go Time 08:50 – Boat Ramps in the Middle of Nowhere 11:12 – Are We Sailing Over a Cattle Crossing?! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Support Our Channel on Patreon Want to help keep these videos coming? We anchor in a remote creek to line up one of Australia’s most extreme tidal passages — a route that completely dries out at low tide. With squalls building and massive currents ripping through, tomorrow’s window could make or break everything.... We’re up before dawn, departing beautiful Great Keppel Island after an unforgettable stay, and heading north toward Curtis Island to position ourselves for one of the most challenging tidal routes on the Queensland coast — The Narrows. This passage is all about timing. At low tide, The Narrows completely dries out, with up to 1.6 metres of water disappearing, turning parts of the channel into a literal cattle crossing. To calculate this route, cruisers 1.6m depth plus their vessel’s draft...... and a solid nerve :) Are we sailing through a channel… or over land? In this episode, we sail 20 nautical miles while getting hit by multiple squalls, pass AROUND a pink zone on the Great Barrier Reef, and anchor in a narrow creek with a huge tidal flow as we prepare to ride the high tide through The Narrows the following morning. This is the calm before the storm — and the setup for one of our most exciting passages yet. Next episode: We take on The Narrows itself. What is antifoul and why do boats need it? 🌊⛵ Antifoul is a protective coating applied below the waterline to prevent marine growth like barnacles, weed, and slime from attaching to a boat’s hull. In this reel, we break down what antifoul does, why it’s essential for performance and efficiency, and why choosing the right type matters — especially for aluminium boats like ours.
