Refit glow-up time! 🔥 In the final week of our sailboat refit, we gave our aluminum catamaran a whole new look — complete with a brand-new burgundy boot stripe to match our fresh color theme. After scuffing, cleaning, and prepping the hull, we sprayed on soapy water, grabbed a squeegee, and got to work applying the new stripe. A little teamwork and… WOW! What a transformation! Yep… we literally cut the back off our aluminum sailing catamaran 😅 As part of our major refit, we extended the sugarscoops — rebuilding the sterns completely from 4mm 5083 aluminum. The flat sheets were then pressed for the perfect shape, and welded back on — inside MIG welded and outside TIG welded. We couldn’t be happier with how they turned out! We did a major refit on our sailboat, and one of the key jobs was replacing the cutlass bearings — the parts that support the propeller shafts and keep vibrations low when the props spin. To do this, we hauled the boat out of the water, dropped the rudders, pulled the shafts, and used a heat gun to loosen the glue holding the old bearings in place. Once they slid out, we pressed in brand-new bearings, reinstalled everything, and got ready to launch again! It’s one of those behind-the-scenes jobs that makes a huge difference in how smooth and reliable the boat feels underway. After months of hard work, we’ve finally reached the final days of our major sailboat refit! 🛠️ In the final days we move the boat to the ramp, replace the prop shafts, install brand new Flexofold propellers, apply a fresh coat of antifoul, and finally — relaunch our home back into the water! There comes a time in every cruiser's life where they will eventually face the need to replace their cutlass bearings. We've dropped our rudders, taken the props off (BYE BYE!), and the shafts out. The shafts are really important not to damage, scratch or knick in way away so both shafts have been cradled like precious babies and stored in a safe, secure area on cushioning. Once all of that was done, it was time to get the Cutlass Bearings out. The floor has really had a HUGE difference with the tender. All of the tender upgrades have made a huge difference and it is so comfortable to hang out in the tender and ride in it 🙌 We are coming back from the Muddys Playground & waterpark in Cairns (its free, how awesome is that!) and Charlie is loving the comfy seats.
