The PANAMA CANAL | Ep 79 | Sailing Merewether

This week it's finally happening, we are going through the Panamá Canal! We get a bit nostalgic and realise we have been sailing over 7 000 NM, from Ios in Greece where we started a little under 2 years ago, to Colón in Panamá. After our some what hectic sail out of the Mediterranean, we sailed over the Atlantic ocean. We've spent over a year in the Caribbean islands and now we are crossing to the Pacific ocean through the great Panamá Canal. Two days before the crossing we picked up 8 enormous fenders and 4x40 meters (140 feet) long ropes from our agent. We wanted to have all the right gear for this passage and we didn't want to damage our home. Lucky for us we got a hold of 4 volunteers to help us with the lines the day before departure. Our advisor arrived at 4 pm and we started motoring towards the first lock, along with some dangerous looking clouds. What an experience! We had a blast, but after putting down the hook on the other side (the right side as Kieran puts it) we crashed. We were both exhausted, but so happy.
