Suddenly our engine gives out in the busy Hampton Harbor. Afterwards it was nothing but smooth riding all the way down to Elizabeth City, North Carolina, but first we had to cut through miles and miles of wilderness! We navigated narrow passages of the historically famous, Great Dismal Swamp. Today, this naturally preserved alternative route on the ICW takes you through its lusciously green corridors and closes you off from the rest of the modern world surrounding its primeval forest boundaries. Get ready to see lots of wildlife and keep your eyes out for the ginger swamp monster!
