Stranded in the mountains with a sailboat! Ep.5

This is our 5th attempt to leave for our epic adventure to the Bahamas! After yesterdays let down we thought we would be stuck in Coos Bay, Oregon for at least another week! We woke up early today to check the weather and found that we COULD make it through the canyon before the next snow fall, if we left right away! About an hour into the trip, while driving down a straight, but bumpy section of road, (in Coquille, Oregon) we LOST THE TRAILER OFF THE HITCH!! After getting the trailer hooked back up we made it through the canyon with only 1 small mishap with the brakes....lets just say we didn't stop at a stop sign like we tried to and...had to make a 90 degree turn all at the same time! We were so lucky there weren't any cars around for us to hit! The brakes had locked up b/c of sand left on the road from yesterday's snow. We soon made it to our first mountain pass to get to California, but broke down before we could make it to the top of the first hill.... :( Going up the mountain we were only going about 15mph if even that! While driving up the mountain Kenzie started smelling a burnt smell and asked what it was. Randall replied with "It's the smell from the diesel trucks brakes, coming down the mountain" soon after Kenzie's bum and back started to feel REALLY HOT. She reached down and felt the seat and found that it was like someone had turned on the heated seat feature in a newer vehicle. Kenzie glanced at the back of the seat and could see SMOKE rising from behind from the floor! She was freaking out and started telling Randall to PULL OVER NOW!! We weren't in a spot on the road where we could pull over and were already driving in the "slow trucks lane". Randall decided to roll down the windows to let the smoke out and try to cool down Kenzie's seat. Kenzie saw smoke rising from the front of the seats by our legs and began to pile everything she could onto her lap. The computer case and our G-drive were behind the seat and had melted carpet stuck to the case. We finally couldn't take it anymore and pulled over on the "slow trucks lane" the best we could and got out to check to engine. We couldn't find anything wrong and decided to let the truck cool down for a bit...only to find that THE TRUCK NOW WON'T START BACK UP! Now we are stuck on the mountain...oh and did we mention, it's now getting dark too! Long story short, it took us 8 hours to get back down the mountain and to a place where we could sleep...COULD ANYTHING ELSE GO WRONG????
