Join Jen, OHPRI's Education Programs Manager, in this fun challenge. We'll learn about the scientific method and making hypotheses while making clay boats, testing them to see how we can make them float, and then decorating them! Materials needed: - Clay, playdoh, or make your own! Below are some recipes for making homemade playdoh (Note: these are not endorsed or sponsored by OHPRI) ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://tinkerlab.com/no-cook-play-dough/ ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://funlearningforkids.com/easy-play-dough-recipe-without-cream-tartar/ - Shallow tub or big bowl of water. If you don't have a tub or big bowl, you can fill up a sink or bathtub - Small weighted objects that you can fit in your finished boat. You can use marbles, fun-sized chocolate bars, similar-sized rocks, etc. Try to make sure that all your weights are the same size if possible! - Art supplies to decorate your clay boat! THINGS TO DISCUSS DURING THE LESSON - What is the scientific method, and how does it help us learn? - How did you come up with your hypotheses? After testing them, were they right or wrong? How will you revise and come up with new hypotheses as you continue to test your boats? - How does creative thinking help us in our scientific process? - Why is it important to have art as a component of STEAM? What does art bring to our understanding of science and technology? โญIf you have ideas for videos you'd like to see, we want to hear from you!โญ ๐Ÿ‘‰ email us at info @ ohpri.org
