Saying Goodbye to our lives in Stockholm. #9

Every new beginning come from new beginnings end! One week to departure, we are saying goodbye to the life we built here in Sweden. About 10 years ago, Ryan and I left our home countries to come and settle in a land that offered us professional opportunities. Leaving Sweden is also emotional, as Ryan and I  had nothing when we arrived here. For the last 10 years, we worked hard to earn everything we have. From our language skills, our nice apartment, our jobs and friends network, settling in Sweden was as hard as it was rewarding… Because we don’t have family here in Sweden, our friends became like family to us. We met as 20-something party animals and saw each other go from young and wild expats to getting married, starting families and move into houses. We are excited for our big adventure, but saying goodbye to our Swedish family is hard! Someone else likes moving? No one? Yeah... that's what I thought... The process of moving on the boat was absolutely exhausting, and between moving out of the apartment, moving in on the boat, getting settled, getting our tenants moved in and selling the car, we didn’t have a minute to ourselves. During our last night in the apartment, I found myself doing laundry at 11PM, because we had forgotten this was going to be our last opportunity to use our washing machine. We also say goodbye to toilets that don't constantly move, big nice showers, humongous fridge, walk-in closet, my KitchenAid… All that comfort that we took for granted for so many years, before moving in the small space that our boat is. We threw a little goodbye party during which I asked our friends to record themselves and tell the World what it was like to hear from us about our sailing project for the first time. Let’s just say the announcement was met with a fair touch of skepticism! We are setting sail around the day this video will be published, and more excited than ever to explore this new life of ours!
