SAILING THE WEST PACIFIC: Open Food Markets

Open Food Markets in the Pacific Islands are remarkable commercial, visual, cultural and socially exciting sites. They are also a super fun shopping experience for the visiting yachtsman that spends hours picking each fruit and vegetable to stockpile for consumption while at sea. With their plethora of exotic fruits and vegetables these markets entice the yacht chef to take advantage of the locally grown freshly available produce instead of cooking with ingredients that are bottled, dried or canned. Much of the produce available is unfamiliar to the western visitor thus offering amazing inspiration for creative recipes. I intend with this video to showcase these semi magical places, in all their beauty, variety and vibrant energy. We could even say that these markets are mini Whole Foods look alikes, historically spread across many islands and countries of the Pacific basin.
