WE HAVE AMOST COMPLETED OUR GALLEY REFIT!! At this stage, 80+ days into lockdown we are all starting to go Stir crazy. Tensions are high and all we want to do is get the refit completed and start to plan our future adventures. With another huge storm blowing through, including a short hail storm, work this week was slow. We were all a little concerned about Grumpy the seagull being caught right in the thick of the hail storm but he weathered it well in the end. Robin is finally starting to see a possible end to the carpentry work, getting the cabinet faces installed in the galley, passages and cabins and all of two galley cabinet doors fitted. Again, lockdown has affected our being able to buy the correct hinges and latches for the cabinet doors, so another project remains close to being complete - but just not there. The cabinet faces, doors and all the teak paneling throughout the yacht has been created using Nida-core. It’s a great product - high strength, low weight composite that is ideal for use on a yacht where every 100gm of weight is important. This is how we get great looking cabinetry at a fraction of the weight of solid wood. The panels are created by sandwiching the polypropylene honeycomb nida-core panel between 3mm marine ply which was then finished with Formica or in the case of the teak panels , the core was sandwiched between marine ply and then teak veneered 3mm meranti boards. The finished product is really great and super light. It has many other uses too - due to its insulation properties, strength, it’s non corrosive and sound proof. It’s very popular in boat building but also used in many other applications. Denver’s solution to being cold, frustrated and stuck inside through the bad weather was to go for a run and shows us the beautiful lagoon surrounded by squalls. We hope you enjoy our video and don’t forget to subscribe to see where the wind eventually takes us. Thank you for watching!
