SAILING MAINE - BOAT LIFE at its Best on Mount Desert Island | Harbors Unknown Ep. 43
SAILING MAINE - BOAT LIFE at its Best on Mount Desert Island | Harbors Unknown Ep. 43 For the past few weeks we've been sailing Maine and this week we’re enjoying boat life at its best on Mount Desert Island in protected Northeast Harbor. The quintessential Maine experience. Buying lobster from the docks where lobstermen unload their catch, and eating it within the hour. Hiking in the pristine forest with no one else in sight. It’s here I’ve consciously recognized why I wanted to live the cruising lifestyle. The connection with nature, with the gritty elements of a life lived outdoors, in synchrony with the sun, wind, and tides. It's where I feel truly alive. Northeast Harbor in Mount Desert Island, Maine is home to a super protected mooring field and marina nestled in the hills of Maine’s largest Island. It’s a cruiser friendly marina with a laundry room where we chatted with other boaters while waiting our turn, and clean bathrooms with nice, hot showers. While in the mooring field we didn’t want to make water, so we took full advantage of the amenities. The main street of the small town was just up the street, with a small grocery store, though quite pricey, some shops, restaurants and a hardware store. The trails of Acadia National Park were just a short dinghy ride away and maybe best of all, we were within a minute of where lobstermen unloaded their fresh catch. _______ If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our @Seawind Catamarans boat, Wanderlust, in September. We're sailing her to Harbors Unknown, to explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We share our adventures as a sailing couple living on a boat and how it’s possible to live an #alternativelifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. We have set off on our voyage sailing around the world, after exploring the beautiful waters of South Florida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas. Subscribe now to join our #sailingadventure.
