Sailing Fiji to NZ ROUGH and Smooth. The Rough and The Smooth. Sailing From Fiji to New Zealand In this episode, we clear out of Fiji and set sail in some very boisterous conditions towards New Zealand. It's our roughest crossing yet. We make great speed but encounter some of the roughest seas we have ever sailed in. Even going to the toilet is a challenge! Five days later ,we are motoring in the smoothest conditions we have ever encountered in the South Pacific Ocean. We are greeted by dolphins and spectacular sunsets. Ocean sailing certainly keeps you on your toes. We arrive into Opua, NZ after 6 days and 22 hours at sea having done an average speed of 6.5 knots. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
