Pin End Perfection #corkweek2024

It was tight racing for the start of race 4 of Volvo Cork Week 2024, with the pin end favoured and and a pressure header out on the left edge of the course the pin end of the line and the left of the beat was the place to be. The Redline racing team approach the rest of the fleet on port tack with just over a minute to go before the start. After going head to head with a Beneteau First 35 the J109 GTR put in a tight gybe to line up to leeward of the fleet. With less than 30 seconds to go it was not a time on distant challenge to hit the ping and with as much speed as possible. The team on GTR were slightly early and had to burn off some speed which gave the boats on their hip the chance to roll over the top. Smooth steering and quality mainsheet control allowed GTR to close the gap on the boats to windward. About a minute and twenty seconds into the race and with the help of a 5 degree header GTR pulled off the leebow and raced away to lead at the first mark.
