Perkins engine is leaking so much OIL !! [E4]

As we got down to cleaning the bilges we discover there is so much oil build up in the main bilge. We wonder whether it is normal for these old Perkins diesel engines to drip a little bit of oil. Perhaps some of it comes from spillage each time the oil was changed..? It is however scary to think that someone may have been okay with using automatic bilge pump to put it all out into the sea! Squalo, sat in the marina neglected for few years and is in need of some TLC so we do our best to revive her a little.
