Our FIRST Night Sailing Experience… Crossing the World’s Busiest Shipping Lane

We’re officially crossing into Indonesia… and it’s our very first time doing it. After months of preparing our sailboat Stella, we left Malaysia and set off on a 3 day crossing into Indonesia — sailing straight through the Malacca Strait, one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. This was our first time: – sailing overnight – doing watch shifts alone in the dark – navigating around massive container ships – and crossing into a new country by sea With over 90,000 vessels passing through this strait every year, this crossing was nothing like we expected. From glassy sunsets to pitch-black night sailing… to unexpected storms, engine hiccups, and fishing boats with no AIS — things got intense fast. But after 3 days at sea… we finally saw land. 🇮🇩 Welcome to Indonesia.
