Ricky our welder has begun his work and the supports that stiffen the structure are now in place. While he works on the welds Bill plans to continue sanding the bottom while checking in occasionally to make sure the 'arch' plan is progressing. To confirm that the geometry of the structure is correct with respect to the placement of the pipes for the davits the feet, or deck mounts of the vertical support poles are temporarily installed using screws but later are permanently welded to the stern rail before the deck could be properly sealed. This gives us little space to work the butyl tape and epoxy into place. To give us access to the area of the deck we are working on we use the winch and halyard to gain mechanical advantage and help us move the structure just enough to be able maneuver around the feet. It's a painstaking process and it ends up taking us three days just to fix 6 of the deck holes. The process would still have been time consuming had we not made this mistake but it caused us aggravation and wasted time and could have been avoided.
