It looks like an open-air museum around Rome! We are moored on the Tiber River with the catamaran and there is so much history around us through excavations. Around the corner from our harbor is 'Ostia Antica'. This port city was founded for trade in the 7th century BC and in the 2nd century AD, the port city has grown enormously to 50,000 inhabitants. Mainly traders, boat owners and sailors lived in this bustling city at the height of the ancient Roman Empire. The city was located on the Tiber River and the name 'Ostia' is derived from the Latin 'ostium', which means river mouth. We flew our drone above the excavations, you see old temples, houses and thermal baths that are 2500 years old, with black and white mosaic floors that are still in excellent condition! In case you think while watching: “Where is the sea?”: due to the slowly shifting coastline, the sea is now a few kilometers away ;).
