ODYSSEY #78 - Tonga Islands

Tonga is situated at the heart of the South Pacific, to the West of the international date line; it’s one of the first countries to see the sun rise each day. Tonga is surrounded by Fiji some 700km to the West, Samoa some 800km to the North, and Niue some 450km to the East. The Kingdom of Tonga comprises 176 islands (only 53 of which are inhabited) spanning a land area of just 740km2. Here we find islands of volcanic origin, as well as rather flat coral islands, coral quarries, lagoons and sheer cliffs. The Race for Water Foundation is dedicated to the preservation of the water and the oceans in particular. Today, seriously under threat from plastic pollution, it is imperative that this essential resource for life is protected.To prevent plastic waste from reaching the waterways and oceans by developing social models and business models that give value to plastic waste and hence encourage its collection.
