Laying Down the Deck - Episode 231 - Acorn to Arabella: Journey of a Wooden Boat
https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella $5 a month gets you an invite to our monthly livestream sessions! Now that we've got all of our boat decking down, it's time to caulk with cotton, and we go through some practice runs and observations when it comes to this important part of finishing our DIY wooden boat deck. Caulking this straight-laid wooden boat deck might be a little simpler than if it were a sprung deck, but we wanted to make sure we were doing the best we could with what we've got, so we did some test runs with different methods and caulking irons. Also, anywhere we can do things smartly and efficiently, we try to figure out that best way before launching into new, big parts of the build. Wondering about the maple sugaring equipment? Aaron's really into it. We hope he can get all set up for a big season this coming early spring. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells?
