Landfall in Nuku Hiva, Marquesas - Thula Sailing Ep. 43

After 4000 miles from Panama we finally drop anchor in Taiohae, Nuku Hiva - a totally different world with huge manta rays of a 2,5 - 3m span circling our boat in the mornings. After having fought a diesel diseaster in our bilge and finding the culprit for it, we finally get to explore the mystic town with sacred churches and impressive carved stone figures. Janna has a little adventure herself finding a doctor 'somewhere up the hills at a dirt road' while catching a glimpse of how the Marquesans live. And last but not least we are introduced into Marquesan dancing impressed by the energy spread through loud massive drums, the men‘s deep voices in contrast to the ladies high chants. Especially the tattoos the Marquesans are well known for creating, showed into advantage in the bright light of sweaty dancers fully in their element.
