Japan’s Plastic Conference - A View from the Waterline

Next week, Japan hosts an international conference on plastic pollution. I won’t be in the room, but I live at the waterline. From here, plastic pollution isn’t abstract. It’s mechanical. It’s physical. It can be dangerous. A discarded fishing net once wrapped around my prop shaft and nearly sank my boat. Garbage is borderless. Ocean currents don’t recognize nations. As the conference unfolds in Tokyo, I’ll be watching through the lens of sustainability, stewardship, and what I call The Art of Community — how we treat what belongs to all of us.
