It may or may not for you. I look at the other sailboat and in my mind, I tele-transport myself onto their boat. When on their boat, it is easy to determine which tack they are on because of the heading and wind direction. Then back on my boat, I can then make a decision about who gives way. I'm sure some will call me weird - just means it does not work for them (so many naysayers). In doing this I can determine within a few seconds what tack they are on.
