Homemade Bus Bars | ep. 131

We drill holes in our rudder then tackle making homemade bus bars for the wiring to our electric motor. Todd gets copper bar stock cut and tinned by Storm Copper and figures out how to make a mold to pour our own bases. These saved us tons of money over buying electrical bus bars from someone like blue sea. Making Bus Bars to carry 600 amps at 48 volts DC - buy tinned copper stock 1 1/4" x 1" x 6" (Storm Copper) - make molds for base out of vinyl downspout and wood as seen in video - drill and tap for bronze 3/8" studs - insert studs - wipe down with acetone or alcohol before putting in molds to remove oils. - add nuts under copper stock to allow epoxy to run underneath. - add nylon spacers for mounting holes to mold. - mix epoxy and pour into mold. We used electronic bedding epoxy. - let cure. - drill mounting holes We are a family preparing to sail around the world in our electric sailboat.
