Fibreglass Rudder Tip Repair

A few years ago we ran aground taking the bottom six inches off the bottom of our rudder. This video takes you through all the steps we followed to repair the rudder to its original condition. With the right equipment this repair is easier they you might think. It is important that you use epoxy resin due to it water resistance and marine plywood or closed cell foam to build the replacement tip, once again due to it ability to prevent moisture from spreed if it the outer covering is breached. Due to the longer curing time of the epoxy resin it will take you 4 or 5 days to complete the processes as you need to allow a full day of drying after each layer of epoxy is applied, to total working time is less that half a day with each step only taking a couple of hours. Why pay a boat building to do your repairs when doing them yourself is easy than you might think. If you were inspired by the simplicity of the above repair and have your own repair to do you can pick up the resin and glass fibre matt via the product links below.
